Scarlet is the second book in the Lunar Chronicles, due to release February 5, 2013. Today the cover's been released! My first thoughts were: "Is it someone flying? What does that have to do with the story?" After reading an interview I read here, I realized that the cover isn't someone flying, but a cape.
Just like Cinder's fairy tale focus is Cinderella, Scarlet's fairy tale focus will be Little Red Riding Hood. Here's a small blurb: "Book two, Scarlet, is
based on Little Red Riding Hood. It continues Cinder’s story as she
attempts to escape Queen Levana’s vengeance and learn more about her
past. The story also introduces readers to Scarlet, a girl living in
southern France whose grandmother has mysteriously disappeared. In order
to find her, Scarlet seeks the help of Wolf, a street fighter with more
than a few mysteries of his own." [via]
Might I say that Marissa Meyer is a genius. Tying all these different fairy tales into modern retellings, all in one series, were they're all intertwined? Genius. Pure Genius. I am very much so looking forward to reading Scarlet.
Might I just add that her next two books in the Lunar Chronicles are also based on fairy tales? Read for yourself: "Two more fairy tale fantasies will follow Scarlet, including Cress (2014), Meyer's take on the Rapunzel legend, and the Snow White-inspired conclusion, Winter (2015)." [via]

I haven't read Cinder yet but I like how Scarlet's cover is similar to Cinder's. I like the idea behind these books.

ReplyDeleteStill haven't read Cinder though... Summer reading list I think.
